Thinking about a career in finance?

A career in financial services can be incredibly rewarding – and Greenspring knows that if you’re seeking a career in finance, getting hands-on experience before you graduate is paramount. Seeking an internship with an established, reputable firm to earn real world experience and help you determine your path is an important piece of the puzzle.

Here at Greenspring Advisors, we have developed a comprehensive internship program that completely dismisses the preconceived notion of an internship consisting of pushing papers and fetching coffee. We believe that it’s imperative to pass along our knowledge to the next generation of financial professionals. Our 12-week rotational program allows the opportunity for rising seniors to learn about the industry first-hand through training exercises and assisting our team with real life scenarios. When crafting our 12-week program, it was important for us to design a schedule that provides an exciting and rewarding experience and allows the opportunity to add value to our firm and our clients.

What You Will Learn

We meet our client's needs in multiple ways through the different departments we have, each providing distinctly different services; which is why our interns rotate through each department to see how all sides of our business work. This program curriculum also provides career readiness preparation and personalized development, mentorship, and coaching opportunities!

Corporate Retirement

You will spend the first portion of your internship with our Corporate Retirement and Financial Planning teams. From the Corporate Retirement team, you will learn about vendor relationship management, retirement plan governance, and plan committee formation and partnerships.

Financial Planning

In your first rotation with the Corporate Retirement and Financial Planning teams, you’ll also learn how to develop and implement a financial plan, see our participant engagement services in action, and get a baseline on financial education that we provide to our 401(k) plan participants.

Private Wealth Management

For the second part of your rotation, you’ll be working with the Private Wealth and Advisor Services Teams. With the Private Wealth team, you’ll learn about tax planning and projections, client onboarding and services, and all things client and prospect presentations.

Advisor Services

Throughout the second half of your internship, you’ll also enjoy working with our Advisor Services Teams, including our Investment, Operations, and Marketing teams. You’ll learn about our investment philosophy, our trading and rebalancing models, and how a marketing department functions in the financial industry.

“Greenspring introduced the fee-only financial planning world to me, and taught me the benefit of helping people make financial decisions without the financial bias of selling a product. Right off the bat, I was introduced to the planning process; completing research and projects for upcoming client meetings. Within days, I was sure of my career path and here I am 7 years later, a Certified Financial Planner™ professional, continuing to reach my career goals.”

My three years Interning at Greenspring were pivotal in my decision to join the firm on a full-time basis. This time allowed me to build rapport with team members across both Practice Groups and to discover that the firm fostered a culture that perfectly aligned with my values and fueled my career aspirations. Throughout my Internship, I was not only given a plethora of opportunities to witness the dynamics of an Advisor-Client relationship firsthand when I was included in client meetings, but I was also exposed to Financial Planning concepts and software that were not covered in my business curriculum at my university. Overall, I found my Greenspring Internship experience to be truly invaluable to my development, and the foundation for my success thus far in my current role as a Financial Advisor.
